A native of Italy, she earned her medical degree from the University of Catania Faculty of Medicine in 1983. After relocating to the United States, she completed her residency in psychiatry and fellowship in child & adolescent psychiatry at the Tufts Medical Center in 1987 and 1989, respectively.
